Meeting Attendance

“I felt scared and broken, when I walked into my first meeting not knowing what to expect, what I found were people who understood me” (anonymous)

Attending meetings on a regular basis allows new members to develop a relationship with the program of AA, the group, and the fellowship of its members.  If you are fortunate enough to live in an place that has many meeting per week, you may find meetings suited to your schedule as well as different meeting types. You can find local meetings on our Area 52 Website Meeting Finder.  You can search for womens meetings by day, type of meeting etc.

Sponsorship

“When I first came to AA I didnt trust other women, my sponsor was the first woman I learned that I could trust with the issues that I was struggling with” (anonymous)

Many women in AA share that they had difficulties in the beginning not being sure who they could trust at meetings, especially men, but in some cases it was other women too. They share that they found a woman at the meeing who seemed to “have what they wanted” and asked them questions about thier concerns.  It didnt take them long to see that the concerns they had were shared by many and easily overcome with the help of the Sponsorship of other women in the group.

(see below) Questions and Answeres on Sponsorship

Safety

While safety is a concern for all people attending AA meetings for the first time, it can be especially concerning for women.

“I was vulnerable and alone going to my first meeting, thankfully there were women there who welcomed me, and helped me to feel safe”
